WHY CHOOSE US

Building Custom Tiki Huts for Every Outdoor Space

15 Years of Specialized Tiki Construction

We have 15 years of specialized experience building custom tiki huts for residential and commercial properties throughout South Florida. Our projects include homes, hotels, resorts, restaurants, apartment communities, and other commercial properties.

Higher-Quality Materials & Denser Thatching

We use pressure-treated wood for greater durability and resistance to rot and moisture in South Florida's outdoor conditions. Our thatching is installed tighter and with substantially more palm leaves than many traditional tiki builds, creating a thicker, fuller roof with better coverage and long-term durability.

Fully Custom Tiki Hut Construction

We custom-build every tiki hut around the property, available space, layout, and intended use. Nothing is prefabricated, giving each residential or commercial property a tiki structure designed specifically for the space.

Honest, Knowledgeable Customer Guidance

We explain the materials, construction methods, and important differences customers should look for when comparing tiki hut builders. Our straightforward approach gives customers the information they need to understand their options and make an informed decision without a high-pressure sales pitch.

OUR SERVICES

Tiki Structures Built for the Way You Use Your Space

Custom Tiki Huts

Every custom build starts with your measurements, not a catalog. We size the frame, roof pitch, and overhang to your space and intended use, whether that means a shaded dining table, a full tiki bar, or a quiet waterside corner.

Commercial Tiki Huts

Resorts, hotels, restaurants, and apartment communities need tiki structures that handle heavy daily use. We plan the layout, framing, and thatch around your operation, with high-quality synthetic options when your property needs a longer-lasting roof.

Residential Tiki Huts

Backyards, pool decks, patios, and waterfront lots each call for something different. We build home tiki huts that fit your space and entertaining style, then stay available for rethatching, repairs, and 24-hour emergency calls after storms.

Quality Comes First

The Details Under the Thatch Decide How Long a Tiki Hut Lasts

Two tiki quotes can look identical on paper and perform completely differently after two hurricane seasons. The difference usually hides in the lumber, the leaf count, and how tightly each layer is tied down. We frame with pressure-treated southern yellow pine or cypress, hand-select mature palm leaves, and lay them dense enough to shed water instead of channeling it through. Longstanding relationships with members of the Seminole community shaped much of what we know about traditional thatching. If you are comparing bids, reach out through our contact page, and we will explain exactly how ours is built.

01

Warranties Written Into Every Build

Every roof we thatch carries a 2-year warranty on the palm leaves, and every frame carries a 10-year structure warranty, so you know exactly what is covered before the first post goes in.

02

Help Whenever Something Goes Wrong

Storms do not keep business hours, and neither do we. Call day or night about lifted fronds, a leaning post, or storm damage, and we will talk you through the next step and schedule the repair.

What Our Customers Say

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between a tiki hut and a chickee?

A chickee is the traditional open-sided wooden hut built by Seminole and Miccosukee builders and roofed in palm or palmetto. Tiki hut is the broader name people use for similar thatched structures, including ones built by contractors outside the tribes.

  • What wood should a tiki hut frame be built from?

Pressure-treated southern yellow pine and cypress are the two woods we trust. Treatment and the natural resins in cypress both slow rot and insect damage, which matters when posts sit in humid ground and rafters stay damp after rain.

  • Why does the number of palm leaves on a roof matter?

More leaves mean more overlapping layers between you and the weather. A densely thatched roof sheds rain instead of dripping, holds its shape longer in wind, and weathers gradually, while a thin roof opens gaps and needs rethatching sooner.

  • Where do your palm leaves come from?

We source mature palm leaves by hand and choose them for size and strength rather than convenience. Longstanding relationships with members of the Seminole community have taught us what a good leaf looks like and how traditional builders lay it.

  • Why is my tiki roof turning gray?

Palm leaves naturally fade from green or tan to silvery gray as sun and rain dry them out. Graying alone is normal and mostly cosmetic, but brittle, crumbling leaves along the edges suggest the thatch is nearing the end of its life.

  • Can a tiki hut be built on a slope or uneven ground?

In most cases, yes. Posts can be cut to different lengths or set at different depths so the roof sits level even when the ground does not. Drainage matters more on a slope, so we plan where runoff goes before setting anything.

  • Can I use a grill under a tiki hut?

Keep open flames and grills out from under any thatched roof and well clear of its edges. Dry palm leaves ignite easily, so plan a separate cooking spot nearby, or ask about fire-rated synthetic thatch if cooking close by matters to you.

Denser Thatch and Stronger Frames for Tiki Huts in Coconut Creek and Oakland Park, FL

South Florida sun, salt air, and summer storms wear down a thin palm roof faster than most owners expect. SoFlo Tikis builds custom, commercial, and residential tiki huts and tiki bars in Coconut Creek & Oakland Park, FL, and we also handle re-thatching, repairs, and natural or synthetic thatch roofs across Broward County. We are a small, family-operated crew with 15 years in this trade, and we stay hands-on with every job from start to finish. Nothing we build is prefabricated. Each frame is sized to your yard or property, cut from pressure-treated lumber, and covered in tighter thatch with roughly twice the palm leaves many traditional builds use.
